I am a plastic surgeon and trustee of OPSA based in Hull, England. I have been part of OPSA for over 16 years.
We have come a long way from going for a camp once a year to biannual visits and have helped to establish a dedicated Cleft Hospital, Gujrat, PK which provides multidisciplinary treatment for cleft patients. We have managed to train the staff to run this Hospital.
I have the responsibility to organise the teams for these trips which include Cleft Surgeons from UK, Ireland and other countries. The team also include nurses, ODPs and speech therapist. We encourage trainees from UK and Pakistan to join us during our visits which provides them valuable clinical and cultural experience. It is my pleasure to welcome new members of the team who are joining us for our next visit from 11-20 October 2019.
We have set up teaching and training courses for nurses and paramedical staff to benefit from the visiting faculty. As the Cleft Hospital, Gujrat, PK is regularly providing treatment by the local staff, our visits help to deal with complex cases and to provide teaching and training so that best care can be provided to patients in other parts of the country.
