Helping the children of Pakistan take the next step forward.
Since March 2021, OPSA launched a new initiative to help the lives of children of Pakistan suffering from lower limb conditions.
The ‘Clubfoot Project’, is run by Dr Bilal and his local team of local Orthopaedic surgeons.
Clubfoot repair process
The operations are a lot more complex than clefts in the sense that the patient has to come initially for casting once per week for several weeks to straighten the feet with castes.
Finally, a general anaesthetic operation is done to release the tendon inside the feet and the final caste is then placed. In total each case takes around 6 - 8 weeks of treatment and follow up too so it is a fairly protracted treatment process.
Building for the future
OPSA and Cleft Hospital in Gujurat are building an extension to the cleft hospital allowing the service to be offered to patients on the same site as the cleft operations.
These benefits will allow for further training and development for trainee surgeons and provide much easier accessibility for patients to attend.
